Sunshine Foods
is proud to be designated as
a BLUE ZONES grocery store

Across the country, around 64 grocery stores have become Blue Zones Grocery Stores® by making simple changes in their stores to nudge shoppers to make the healthy choice. Grocery stores are becoming important parts of the wellness in a community and Blue Zones play an important role.

What are Blue Zones?   Blue zones are regions of the world thought to have a higher than usual number of people live much longer than average, identified by Gianni Pes and Michel Poulain. Five "Blue zones" have been posited: Okinawa (Japan); Sardinia (Italy); Nicoya (Costa  Rica);

 Icaria (Greece); and Loma Linda (CaliforniaUSA)

The concept of Blue Zones grew out of demographic work done by these 2 men that was published in 2004 by the journal of Experimental Gerontology, who identified Sardinia's Nuoro province as the region with the highest concentration of male centenarians. As the two men zeroed in on the cluster of villages with the highest longevity, they began referring to the area as the "Blue Zone".[3] Blue Zones support the ideas of healthy eating, active lifestyles and community involvement.
